Maintaining Your Individuality in Love (reposting)

What is the distinction between mature love and a common misconception of what love is: the symbiotic relationship? Mature love is stable, a union of two people who respect themselves and each other. Symbiotic love is needy and dependent. Symbiotic relationships demand that one person has power over another. This results in the loss of the integrity of both partners. Mature love means that both individuals in the partnership have room to be themselves, even while being together. In the symbiotic relationship, one partner is driven by need and fear that the other partner will leave. In mature love, each partner is free and whole, choosing, rather than being driven, to give love to the other partner.

Mature love requires giving your love with no strings attached, with no expectations. Many of us have learned from society that to give means "to give up" or "to give away" -- in essence, creating a deficit in ourselves. Further, we learn to give only as much as we expect to receive in return, lest we end up feeling cheated by giving more. Giving, as it exists in mature love, is quite different from these types of messages we have received. Rather than being seen as a sacrifice or an investment in future returns, giving in mature love comes from a desire to give and an ability to do so. In the words of Erich Fromm, author of The Art of Loving published in 1956, "Giving is the highest expression of potency... more joyous than receiving, not because it is a deprivation, but because in the act of giving lies the expression of my aliveness."

In a symbiotic relationship, one partner gives up a significant part of himself or herself in order to maintain a peaceful relationship. This individual, ruled by a fear of being alone, will sacrifice parts of his or her identity for the sake of keeping the relationship intact. Short-term conflict is avoided, and the status quo is maintained. In the long run, though, there is a price to be paid: the loss of one's individuality. If one partner idolizes the other and is willing to sacrifice himself more
completely, then the other partner has more power and control over the relationship. When the balance of power is unequal, the relationship becomes unsatisfying for both partners; almost inevitably, it ends. There are a lot of people willing to give up an awful lot to avoid being alone. They are willing to give up who they are, what they are, and what they want and need. They are willing to sacrifice their individuality for the love of another.

Any person who is willing to make such a sacrifice lacks self-love, and thus is incapable of maintaining a mature, loving relationship. Self-love is where love for others has to start. Giving up your individuality will eventually come back to haunt you; you will end up feeling anger, resentment, and/or regret. The outcome of one partner resenting the other is the deterioration of the relationship. People need relationships, but they also need to be fulfilled within themselves. When you give up your dreams for the sake of your partner's, you do so at the cost of your own individuality and personal growth.

When you enter into a relationship, it does not mean that your personal life stops. Your life does not totally change because you are with another person. You have to maintain your own individuality. You have to have your own personal goals. You need to maintain the friendships, hobbies and interests that you had before you met your partner. If you give these up for the sake of your relationship, you are giving up your life. When your partner first met you, they were attracted to you as an individual. It's important that you keep your individuality-- that's what attracted your partner in the first place. Maintaining your individuality will enable you and your partner to build a mature loving relationship. Many relationships fail today because one partner has given up too much of themselves for the other. You have to love yourself first, before you can love another. If you enter a relationship and give up all the things that define you as an individual, you are not giving yourself the love that you need. Sooner or later, if you lose your identity, if you stop giving to yourself, you will be unable to give to your relationship. It's important not to confuse identity and individuality with flexibility in your relationship. Individuality is about the things that make you who you are. Flexibility is about compromise. Compromise will always be necessary in any relationship that you have. In order to compromise, you have to be committed to honest communication of your feelings and needs at all times. In building a life together, problems will arise. Problem solving through honest communication is the key to building a mature, loving relationship. Neither you nor your partner should give up anything that makes you the unique person that you are. It's up to you and your partner to find the balance that you both need to succeed in a rising loving relationship.

I know that there will be one today coz I've read about it on the AOL page yesterday. Got totally consumed with other things that I forgot to research more regarding it thus almost missing it this afternoon. When I got up on our rooftop to check, the sun is already low and preparing to set. T'was hard to look at it with naked eyes if the eclipse is still ongoing so I hurriedly got back to my room to get my sunglasses to aid me better. Obviously I missed the ring part where the moon was exactly in front of the sun but it was still amazing! I catched upon the sun when it was like a waning crescent or a letter C in shape. I was mesmerized coz it was the first time for me to witness such cosmic event. And before I could even snap a decent pic the clouds eclipsed the show! My lil bro missed it. The pictures above were evidences of my lack of preparations. Yeah I know, should have used an xray film or sunglasses even in front of the camera lenses coz it's really hard to see it with naked eyes plus it can be harmful to stare at it directly. Now I know what to do come next solar eclipse on May 20, 2012.

We live in a pathologically dissatisfied world. And I'm going to tell you why. Because we love to compare. Go around the world and discover that people aren't happy with their bodies.

Filipinos want to be fair-complexioned like Westerners, and so buy bleaching stuff. Westerners want to own bronzed bodies like ours, and so purchase tanning lotions.

Those with moles have them removed, while those who don't strategically implant beauty spots.

Some people want to shed a few pounds to look like Ally McBeal, while others want to gain some baby fat to look like Drew Barrymore.

When are we ever going to stop and simply be happy with how we look? We live in a sick world. I tell you. And that sickness is comparisonitis. Take a look at wealth. When we drive our old Toyota , it really suits us fine. We feel blessed in fact when the rain pours outside and we feel snug and cozy on its faded upholstered seats.

But the moment we see our own office mate (or neighbor, or buddy, or cousin, or brother) drive his sleek sky-blue, four-door, four-wheel-drive Rav4, we automatically feel like third class children of God. Next time we drive our bumpy, noisy, rusted, dilapidated Toyota (notice how all the defects come out all of a sudden?), we feel deprived, dispossessed, pariah, debased, and only a little higher than the insects of the earth.

Listen carefully. Bill Gates' total assets are worth $60 billion. That's more than the GNP of some small countries. Tiger Woods earns $80 million simply by smiling on TV in a Nike shirt. And the stars of the sitcom Friends are paid $50,000 per episode! My point? No matter how hard you work, there'll still be some people who will be richer than you are.

And there'll be some people who will be more beautiful, have more sex appeal, have more boyfriends/girlfriends, and have more problems. Try it for once. Stop looking around. Don't compare!

Don't compare her nose with your nose.
Don't compare his wife with your wife.
Don't compare his salary with your salary.
Don't compare her breast size with your breast size.
Don't compare her kid's report card with your kid's report card.
Don't compare his prayer group with your prayer group.
Don't compare her/his cellulite deposits with your cellulite deposits.

Stop comparing and start living and you'll be happier with your life.

This is crucial: The most difficult thing in the world is to be who you are not. Pretending and trying to be someone else is the official pastime of the human race. (I don't think dogs and cats and cows and horses have this problem).

And the easiest thing in the world is to be yourself.

Be happy. Live!

There must be a reason why God made you tall or short or fat or thin or bumpy all over.

Love who you are!

Come with me to a third grade classroom...There is a nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk and all of a sudden, there is a puddle between his feet and the front of his pants are wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened. It's never happened before, and he knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the end of it. When the girls find out, they'll never speak to him again as long as he lives.

The boy believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his head down and prays this prayer, 'Dear God, this is an emergency! I need help now! Five minutes from now I'm dead meat.'

He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in her eyes that says he has been discovered.

As the teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water. Susie trips in front of the teacher and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water in the boy's lap.

The boy pretends to be angry, but all the while is saying to himself, 'Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord!'

Now all of a sudden, instead of being the object of ridicule, the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher rushes him downstairs and gives him gym shorts to put on while his pants dry out. All the other children are on their hands and knees cleaning up around his desk. The sympathy is wonderful. But as life would have it, the ridicule that should have been his has been transferred to someone else - Susie.

She tries to help, but they tell her to get out. You've done enough, you klutz!'

Finally, at the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boy walks over to Susie and whispers, 'You did that on purpose, didn't you?' Susie whispers back, 'I wet my pants once too.'

May God help us see the opportunities that are always around us to do good..

Remember...Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

Each and everyone one of us is going through tough times right now, but God is getting ready to bless you in a way that only He can...Keep the faith!

spaghetti on a rainy afternoon

The bf and i were in the grocery last thursday night. When i passed by the pasta/noodles section, i instantly had a hankering for a home cooked spaghetti. =) takaw! Right there and then i purchased the ingredients like pasta, cheese and sauce. yeyeye! I planned to buy the ground pork and hotdogs the next day when i go home from work. The next day it rained on my way home! That's why I was not able to drop by the market to buy the missing items. =( Meaning no spaghetti that friday evening huhuhu. When i woke up saturday morning, like my mom was able to read my mind, the meats are already in the freezer! hooray!! So, after finishing my laundry i went ahead to the kitchen to boil some water for the pasta. Added a tablespoon of oil to prevent the pasta from sticking together and half a teaspoon of salt for a little flavor. Then i also set on fire a second pot for the ground pork to cook. I combined it with enough water and let it boil till the water dries up and its own fat browned the meat a little. On the side, i chopped up garlic and onions and cubed the hotdogs and grated the cheese. =)

The pasta was now al dente after 20 minutes on the boiling water. 20 more minutes and the ground meat is ready.

Then heated up a little oil and sauteed the garlic and onions. I then added the hotdogs in the pan to cook it with the meat. When it was tender and juicy (hehehe) i added the spaghetti sauce, half of the grated cheese and a pinch of salt and pepper. It simmered for 5 minutes and was removed from the fire after. I then added the pasta and mixed it with a little more cheese. Voila! Spaghetti for the whole family! It was our comfort food for that rainy afternoon.

Bought Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason paperback last weekend. Planning to read it this week if I'm not too tired when i go home after work or in the weekend if i don't have a much more important chores to accomplish. This is a sequel for Helen Fieldings's Bridget Jones's Diary. Both were found through my whenever-there-are-secondhand-bookstores-in-the-vicinity-i-will-surely-scan-their-collection hunts. Nice di ba? :p Oh, just now I'm making a mental note to myself that the books at home needs some cataloging or at least be arranged in a somewhat comprehensive order so as to avoid duplicates on my next purchases. yikes.

Visited the dentist a couple of days back. Had an oral prophylaxis and pasta on one of my teeth for freaking PHP900! I felt i was robbed. hehehe. Yeah, you can say that i was not satisfied with the service =( This is a new dentist kasi. I guess I am just used to my old dentist.

Downloaded the latest Naruto Shippuuden episodes (64&65). Gonna watch it when i get home later. ;-)

better late than never

some people say that they're afraid of falling in love. they fear the possibility of learning to love the person then lose them when the relationship ends.

when i met you, i was fearless. i plunged with my head and heart in sync. i was clueless of what's gonna happen...of what's in store. i remember praying then for guidance on whatever it is that God let me into, that He may led me with strength and wisdom if this is what i have been praying for in a long time and provide me with the same if this is just one of the lessons He wants me to learn.

After two wonderful and challenging years, i am still fearless and learning. Because the experience teaches me a lot not only about love but also about life. yes there were tears, ugly fights, bickering and silence that lasts for days. but what's great about it is we are given the chance to express ourselves, to get to know more about each other and learn together. I believe that trust, respect, understanding, acceptance and contentment are key factors in our relationship. without them we'd be really scared out of our wits, constantly anxious of what's going to happen. also, it is a greater help that you always assure me that you'll always gonna be there for me. i can see and feel it everyday. thank you for loving me the way you know how and showing me that there's nothing to be apprehensive about.

the heartaches and years of waiting was all worth it.

I received this in my email last week together with an attached protected spreadsheet. The supposed answer would be the password to open the file. Since i am on petiks mode(hehe), i gladly aim for the solution of the given problem thinking that it is easy. First attempt...wrong. Whoa what item did i miss to include, which legs did i forgot to add or multiply? Hmmmmm...back to calculation. After a couple of minutes i have a brand new answer. Double click the file...password prompt pop ups...enter the digits...press enter...plangak! wrong again. hehehe...this was not easy as it may seem. Okay back to calculating the cats then the legs with a notepad and calc open. Daya? Well the digits are getting bigger eh and i am not that gifted to do it mentally. ('__') A couple of addition and multiplication here and there, another combination of digits was produced. For the 3rd time, i got it all wrong. Nyahahaha...easy pala ah. Now, im challenged. I read again the email this time slowly than the last because this could be a trick question and the answer could just be there screaming at me. But no it was a legit mathematical problem. okay back to the notepad and the calc...there is a bus with the girls, there are bags, cats, kittens...legs, multiply, add...voila! got a new answer. Hoping this is it, i carefully punched the digits and tadah!! the spreadsheet opened. Yihaaa! Im so proud of myself that i added my name on the list and forwarded the email to others. Two of whom i forwarded it to got back to me asking for the answer and one refusing to even try coz it will only give her a headache. Nyahahahha...

yeah i'm making a list, an attainable one i believe.

1. read and finish 2 books in one month - so far i'm done with Bridget Jones's Diary and On the River Piedra I sat down and wept. hurayyy!

2. post here at least once a week - not bad eh =)

3. buy something i've been meaning to eversince - bought a dvd player last friday woohuuuu!

4. save money - this is hard but i'll manage

5. find a new job - yeah i know, bless me good god.

6. out of town once a month - the fam and i went to manaoag new year's day. wihhh...

7. watch a movie or series once a week - done with coffee prince ;-)

8. love my yayat more - ha! this is the easiest and will surely keep :p

there...just hoping i am not a ningas kugon on these ones. hahaha...will update on my progress. peace out!

LOL! I was having this as my breakfast a few weeks back. How did I notice that you might ask, well, a part of my weirdness comes the habit of reading the ingredients listed on any food pack. It was second nature to me to know what was in there. Kaya ayan.

Kelangan yata nila ng proof reader or spell checker?! But in fairness, when I check another pack the next couple of days after, it was "starch" already. Hehehe...

reasons to celebrate!

Besides the coming Christmas day there are lotsa more reasons to be happy and to celebrate. For one, my dear dear friend Jill gave birth yesterday to a healthy bouncing baby girl! Yey! Jillien Astrid is the panganay of our barkada. Then, another dear dear friend is tying the knot next month. This was just a hunch last month but Mich (the bride) confirmed it to me already just minutes ago. =) I am so happy for her. Erwin, my brother is also coming home from Bangkok on Christmas day itself so it's really a yehey day for the whole fam. Also, Jhay is here already from Shanghai and said that he's staying for good while Anlo is coming home this weekend from down under so a get together for the barkada is a must. And before I forget, today is my sister Mheng's birthday! (Have a good one be!)

I've checked my friendster and viewed some profiles and saw this:

Goodness! I'm wanting that uber cute panda! But it is heartbreaking to know that this photo was taken in the UK. Ang layo!! Hehehe...as if naman maa-afford ko siya diba? *sigh* Then a former classmate popped me in YM and her photo was of a panda too. Yayyyy...so cute!

It happens that she was also into these cuddly cuteness. She asked me where did I get my collection of panda stuffed toys. I've got some you know. *wink* Then I remembered the photo above so I shared it to her. She agreed that it was indeed a great find. Sana parang DV lang ang UK di ba? wahhhhhh...Now, my obsessions to these furry creatures has awaken again. I've googled images, stores, stuffed toys, blogs, articles and news clippings until my cravings was satisfied. Haha...I'm addicted. So aside from these, did you know that a female panda ovulates just once a year? and there were only about 1,600 living in the world? That is why preservation efforts are being done in China where some are bred in captivity. While reading those stuffs and looking at the pictures makes me want to spend a day on those shelters, feeding, cuddling and playing with them. That would be a real high.

Huwaw!! Ang aga ko today sa office kaya eto post muna sa blog hangga't hinde pa corrupted ng work ang utak ko =) Bakit ako maaga? Eh kasi ba naman 2 consecutive days na ko late hehehe. Sayang ang 50 pesos incentive, pang-load din yun! hihihi...Yeah I know ang tagal kong inactive, my bad. tsk tsk. Hinde ko kasi maisingit during working hours tas pag after naman sobrang wala na kong energy kaya ideal toh na before work mag-blog muna dapat. hehehe...Oh the last time I attempted pala to access this blog eh I thought hinde ko na siya mabubuksan. Ayaw kasing tanggapin yung username at password ko. Ang weird nga eh ayaw niya talaga. Naisip ko tuloy baka may nang-hack na neto. hehehe...as if may interesado. =) Kahit nga ni-try ko na yung forgot your password link eh wala pa rin akong nagawa kasi ba naman yung gmail naman ang hinde ma-access. Hay grabe nawindang talaga ako nun. Kinabukasan, buti na lang nagtanong ako sa mga ka-opisina ko kung ok sa kanila ang gmail ayun hinde rin pala aba may pag-asa ako hinde ako nag-iisa! hehehe...so mega ask ako sa mga monitors na nangangasiwa ng aming connection eklavu. Ayun may problema pala sa dns ekek kaya nagkakaproblema ako sa mga sites na yun. Hayyy...after trying to log back in voila! This blog of mine is breathing again. Whew! Kaya from then on I made a mental note na I'll keep this blog posted regularly as much as possible. Isisingit at isisingit ko siya sa work no matter what kasi dead ang pc ko sa bahay. *sigh*

One morning, while munching on my breakfast at our back porch I saw two white butterflies dancing around the flowers in bloom on our potted plants. I have always been fascinated with butterflies especially when I see them flying around unexpectedly. In these day and age I consider them little blessings to our everyday lives. Those creatures are a joy to watch! Too bad I just finished playing with my camera and I have already put it away inside the closet. So I said to myself, just be content on watching them. As the two beauty danced and hopped around the greens the urgency of seizing the moment is growing in me. I might not have this special moment again. Yat and I was just having a conversation a couple of nights ago about opportunities, how they can come only once so you must get hold on them fast and how you can passed them up to wait for a much better one. Obviously we have contradicting opinions about these as i am the carpe diem type. Spontaneity is a bliss! With that, the decision was rather quick. With the breakfast "kakanin" on hand I dashed to my room to get the cam. True enough, when I came back only one butterfly remained. Sayang! The opportunity was much faster than me. But that didn't dampen my spirit. It just have to do with one butterfly - a very hyper one that is. At least there's still one was my consolation. It flew here and there as if looking for something. When at some point that it lands on a leaf or a flower, my hand stretched or the lens zoomed to get a shot. Ahhhhh! I haven't even pressed the shutter yet and it flew once again. At one time I abandoned my little movements and really run after the winged beauty. Then it flew farther. Wahhh I am losing my chances now. Thinking that it might really go away I instead took shots of the yellow and red flowers. As I was composing a shot, the butterfly returned and fluttered near me. This might not be an unproductive effort at all. A couple of misses here and there and them bam! It rested on a yellow flower in an arm's length. Carefully inching closer my hand shaked to focus and zoomed. One...two...three...click! There it was - my perfect moment that fine morning.

yat and i got the tickets last sat for sugarfree's concert with mso on the 29th! yey exciteness! too bad balcony na lang inabutan namin ambibilis ng mga listers at fans ng sugarfree. bangis. but ok na rin liit lang naman ng music museum i'm sure makikita pa rin naman sila onstage. this will be my 2nd time to see them perform. the first time was way back 2004 pa. hehe jurassic na noh? agahan na lang namin kasi first come first serve yung seating sa balcony so we can still secure good seats. wohoo so excited na talaga...

“There’s no IT, John. There never was. Nor an US, a WE, or whatever. There never was.” Then she stood as if she never cared. She walked out of the restaurant leaving tears in his eyes. She never looked back. She only hesitated, but never dared. She was afraid she’d be taken aback. She was afraid she’d go back into his arms again. She was afraid she was too weak to resist his love. She was afraid she’d make the wrong the decision.

It was nothing more than friendship. Or at least she thought. She was committed. No, she’s not married or is marrying someone. She was committed to her work, her studies, her family and everything else that she felt mattered in her life. She met him in one of those events that she volunteered to head. Yes, she was fond of doing work. She was very fond of multi-tasking.

It was nothing more than chit-chats over the internet, over the phone or through silly text messages. Or at least he thought. He was only being friendly. No, he wasn’t using her. He was just being himself when they were introduced on a dull afternoon at some convention. They were both committee members, they were both good. He liked it that way, the way he has loads of work to do, the way he has to cram his projects and papers.

Their cliques noticed the spark—they didn’t. They noticed it too late. They noticed it after they decided to deny it. They were protecting their friendship. They were killing the love. They were trying to keep up with their friends’ pressures on them being a couple. They were trying to tell themselves it was nothing. They were thinking it was wrong, it was forbidden. They thought their friendship was perfect, it was not to be thrown away by some silly infatuation. They tried to act normal. They tried harder to hide their feelings. They weren’t progressing, they weren’t very good actors.

She was graduating from college and already had work waiting for her. She thought having relationships would only ruin things for her. She thought it was better to wait. She thought what they had would pass away quickly. She thought it was just a little flame. But deep down, she knew she was beginning to fall, she was afraid of this—this what was she didn’t want.

He was a year younger than her. He thought it would be perfect to be with her but he never had the courage to ask. He thought it was better to wait. He thought it might just be a little less than love. He thought that if he’d give it a little time, it might fade away. But deep down, he knew he had ‘a thing’ for her, he was afraid of this—he was afraid he was actually falling for her.

As the year ends, i can't help but ponder on the events, things, people, places and what-nots i was blessed with for the past 12 months. On a time like this it is empowering to count your blessings. =) Here's my list:

- roadtrip from vigan to tuguegarao.
- tagaytay weekend with college friends.
- out of town visit to batangas relatives.
- labor day trekking in baguio (1st time in tam-awan village & bell tower while the nth time in the memorable lourdes grotto.
- attending a wedding in binangonan wearing a green gown.
- a day on avilon zoo.
- chinese new year's mass in barasoain church.
- my very first plane ride
- 2 pacu fishes the day before christmas
- horsetail plant that im still trying to grow for a big pot
- my very yummy leche plan =) *got the recipe from my grandma when im still a teen and been perfecting ever since esp now that i have a new patronizer =) want more ayat?
- good old friends (since childhood/hs/college)
- a love life (finally! ahihihi)
- and of course my family

There are still more that made up my everyday life for the past year. I just can't recall them all today. =) I should have continued my things to be grateful for today journal entry so i could remember them all especially the little things.

Oh well, gratitude is always a good thing. Gotta start the year positively. So, to all of you THANK YOU and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! ;-)

1. There are as few as 1,600 pandas left in the wild.
2. The giant panda has the largest molar teeth of any of the carnivores.
3. Although classed as a carnivore, the panda's diet consists almost exclusively of bamboo and it usually spends 14 hours a day eating.
4. Pandas stand on their head and forelegs to place scent high up on tree trunks.
5. The forepaws of the panda have an extra "thumb" which, when used in conjunction with its "forefingers," enables the panda to grasp even small bamboo shoots with precision.
6. The panda does not hibernate because it cannot store enough fat on a bamboo diet.
7. Pandas usually roam in the forest, but mothers will stay in caves or hollow trees when giving birth and remain there for three to four months after their babies are born.

- walang trabaho kaya bigla kong naalala na may blog nga pala akong nde na naaasikaso. napadaan din ako sa peyups. namiss ko nang magbasa ng articles at makigulo sa forums. hehehe...

- galing ako ng ilocos nung weekend. isa sa destination wish list ko yun kaya naman sobrang excited at naaliw ako sa ilang araw na tinagal namin dun. madami din kaming napuntahan na lugar pero hindi ko lubos na nanamnam, kumbaga eh patikim lang. sa madaling salita, bitin. ngayon isa na siya sa gusto ko pang balikan. kelan kaya? hmmm...

- pinakamalayong lugar na narating ko:
coron, palawan
pagudpud, ilocos norte
callao cave, tuguegarao, cagayan

- hindi pa ko nakakakain ng shawarma, ever. matagal ko na ring binabalak-balak bumili pero hindi ko pa rin nagagawa...gusto na kitang tikman, shawarma!!

- i think two weeks ago pinanuod ko yung lake house kahit antuk na antok na ko, badtrip nga lang kasi nde ko natapos yung last 12 minutes. sira kasi yung cd na nagamit ko. bwahaha... kaya pinanuod ko sunod yung il mare. korean movie ito. bale yung lake house ang hollywood version nito. bida dito si sassy girl. same plot syempre magkaiba lang ng mga details. kahit malayo sa katotohanan astig pa rin sa concept. dito rin yata binase ang moments of love. wehehehe...

- meron na kong Naruto episodes 1 - 199!! pero nasa episode 40 something pa lang napapanuod ko. nyahaha...miss ko na mag-marathon. pde kaya ngayong weekend? dattebayo!

- gusto ko nang bumili ng bagong battery at yung 2 in 1 headset na pde sa radio at the same time eh hands free para sa cellphone kong antique na yata. ehehe...naaawa na ko sa tumatawag sa kin lagi na lang napuputol. =)

- andami kong movies at series na papanoorin. wala nga lang time. san ba makakahanap ng time? bigyan mo nga ako.

- kelangan ko nang dumalaw sa cd-r king. madami-dami na rin ang kelangan kong i-burn.

- gusto ko nang ayusin yung latest addition sa shells & pebbles collection ko. galing yun ng pagudpud at bangui bay. =)

- cancelled flight + free 1way ticket to mla-lao-mla or any visayas destination = exciteness! (-_-)

- birthday ngayon ni mama mary.

- gusto ko nang umuwi at magmeme. antok antok antok na ko.

my bratty 5 year old brother in his usual pasaway antics wanted to go out the shrine to play monkey-monkey (read:umakyat at maglambitin, monkey-monkey was his term) in the nearby tree. but my mom wouldn't let him.
"sige, pag di mo ko pinalabas dito, uutot ako!" said the brat giggling.
all those within earshot can't help but laugh.

for the first time in a long while we were able to start and finish the mass. madalas kasi late kami. nakapag-concentrate din ako sa sermon not only because engaging yung sinasabi nung priest but also because lumayo ako sa pasaway kong kapatid. mwehehehe...pansin ko lang, di masyadong kumakanta yung mga tao puros choir lang. mas feel pa naman ang holy spirit pag join ang crowd sa pagkanta. sabi nga ni st. augustine "he who sings well, prays twice."

it's the weekend and i can't sleep!

yeah yeah yeah. i guess it's the occupational hazard of working night shift. my body is starting to become accustomed to another time zone. so it's the middle of the night, everyone is deep in slumber while i'm here posting. yeba!

it's been a while...hmmm...what have i got to tell...well, i bought a fish today! yep, a goldfish. a hyper, playful, shiny, shimmering fish. hehe. we were on our way home this morning erm yesterday morning that is, when my officemate stopped in Muñoz to buy slippers. there are hundreds of them, slippers but not one caught my attention better than the fishes in the corner of the store. there they are packaged, swimming in circles inside the minuscule space the plastic provides. i hauled each one on eye level looking for nothing in particular coz i really know nothing about them. four to five little fishes in oranges and blacks majored the choices. they all look the same and at the back of my mind they'd prolly die out on me coz i don't know how to take care of those things. i started to gaze away and look again to the variety of slippers as i reached for the last plastic. there it was, a single goldfish amidst the crowd of other fishes. still not knowing how i'll be able to prolong it's life, i paid for it. hasty decision? nahh...you see while looking at it i remembered the insightful conversation i had the night before with someone. it has nothing to do with fishes i must tell you but it was touching and refreshing at the same time, something i never expected. still, what does the fish got to do with it? i have no idea. hehe. no, really, i guess that goldfish signals a lot of things for me personally. changes, risks, lessons and beginnings. pretty deep huh? not really. the thing is, i could learn how to take care of it. i could try at least. coz there's no harm in trying...just a couple of dead fishes along the way i guess. hehe. basta! the fish is a welcoming sign on my new journey to wherever it may lead me. i'm ready.

now, i think i can sleep. c",)

lost and found

i lost my favorite hanky. sadness. clumsy me. it is in my favorite shade of green with little bears in it. it's my fault, i admit. jeez. i hate losing something because i know how it feels. i'll be in agony for days looking for it or blaming reckless me. the worst is being reminded of its loss everytime i'll see anything that reminds me of it. argh! that's why i'm so careful with my things. although sometimes however careful i may be, there will always come a moment when negligence slips in and whips havoc on my sanity. but just as what the saying goes if a door closes, a window will open or something to that effect. heh! so after some days of agonizing over the lost hanky, my last lost something resurfaced. that prepaid mrt card i thought i’ve left in the slot on my way out the buendia station on one of my visit to paseo. i was running late that morning, so as soon as i was collected in the office and was able to put my things in order, that card was gone. i’ve searched my pockets, jacket and bag for it. after rummaging through my things i got exhausted tracking back where i might have dropped it. right then i’ve accepted the fact that it was really gone. but i found it today! it turned out that it was inside the secret pocket of the jacket i used that day! how could that happened? when in fact i’ve turned those pockets inside out. weird huh?! oh well, i’m still sad about that hanky. huhu.

of rainbows and uninvited memories

I saw a rainbow last Sunday afternoon.
My kid brother excitedly pointed it out to my sister and me.

If my memory serves me right,
the last time I saw one was about 4 years ago.
I was so excited then that I even texted my friends about it.
It was like witnessing something magical for the first time!
That same day I will be moving in to our boarding house…
With a new sense of freedom and the prospect of a blooming infatuation,
Life was pure bliss!

Catching a glimpse of a rainbow again was different.
Although it still is a heavenly sight to behold for me.
I am not the same.
Times have changed.
Even my feelings are something else.
Melancholy strikes me…

Then I remember reading somewhere
that rainbows are signs of good luck.
Something stirred within me.
Because from where I am in this journey,
That kind of blessing from above is definitely appreciated.
It wasn’t only a signal of providence but also a symbol of hope.
